Bergman Dacey Goldsmith‘s (“BDG”) Senior Shareholders Gregory M. Bergman and John P. Dacey were the speakers at the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Workshop for water professionals by the Association of California Water Agencies (“ACWA”). Their 1-hour general CLE credit program was entitled, “Words Do Matter – Especially in Your Public Works Contracts.” Greg and John showed how fairly simple changes to regularly-used contractual provisions can provide solutions that will result in substantial savings to public entities. A copy of their power point presentation is attached.
* Greg, in 2013, was named a California Super Lawyer (Business Litigation) for the 10th year in a row. Super Lawyers is a listing of outstanding attorneys who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement; Super Lawyer magazine recognizes only 5% of California lawyers. Greg was named one of the “Top 10 Environmental Lawyers” in the country by United States Lawyer magazine for the 7th year in a row; in 2013, Greg was ranked 8th in the top 10 environmental lawyers in the country (see www.unitedstateslawyerrankings.com). He is co-chair of the U.S.-Mexico Bar Association Environmental Law Committee. He also was selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (only one-half of 1% of American lawyers are accepted). Greg was selected as a member of the ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates), a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil right to jury trials; ABOTA requires its members to be responsible for elevating the standards of integrity, honor, ethics, civility, and courtesy in the legal profession. His membership in these elite trial lawyer groups allows BDG to maximize an early evaluation of opposing attorneys and experts.
* John has been recognized as a California Super Lawyer for the past 7 years in Construction Law and has successfully resolved over 500 public and private works disputes. He was the chief outside attorney behind Los Angeles Unified School District’s $29 billion construction program, and served as Chairman of a Citizen’s Independent Oversight Panel that made recommendations for improvements to Los Angeles community College District’s (LACCD) $6 billion building program. He was selected and serves as Lead Construction Counsel for LACCD.
Only one law firm in California has represented the two largest educational construction programs in the nation. When it was the Los Angeles Unified School District’s $29 Billion Program and the Los Angeles Community College District’s $6 Billion Program, BDG was the firm of choice. BDG’s contracts and procedures have successfully built over 250 public works construction projects in California. In 2011, BDG was recognized by Corporate International Magazine as California’s Dispute Resolution Firm of the Year. And in 2012 and recently in 2013, Corporate International Magazine recognized BDG as California’s Complex Litigation Firm of the Year. Based on BDG’s experience and proven track record, BDG has built a rock-solid reputation as the “go to” law firm when it comes to public works contracts, construction, litigation, and dispute resolution in California. That reputation, founded upon the successful results of our highly – experienced attorneys, is the reason why public entities continue to call upon BDG, for over 30 years now, when it truly matters. Attached please find BDG’s Public Works Portfolio, which is comprised of our cover letter, synopsis of construction case results, and list of references.
